The Story

Yaya’s House is a non-profit organization created to help support Village d’Esperance, an orphanage in Port-au-prince, Haiti.

Merianne Esperance and her husband, Raphael, created Village D’Esperance in 2009 because their hearts were burdened for the abandoned children of their country. Using their own money, they rented a house & made it a home for children in the Government’s care. Tragically, Raphael was diagnosed with cancer in 2014 and passed away shortly thereafter. Merianne, left widowed and with very little income and support, refused to give up on the kids and still trusts God every day for basic necessities like food, water, diapers & rent. ⠀

Merianne, whom the children lovingly call “Yaya”, is “mom” to 16 children (14 of whom are pictured below) and loves them with a Christ-like love. We look forward to answering God’s call to come alongside them as they continue to light up the lives of every one they meet and during this time of greet need.

“The Lord opens the eyes of the blind
The Lord raises up those who are bowed down
The Lord protects the strangers
He supports the fatherless and the widow.”

Psalm 146:9
